Live Theater VR360

Experimentation with 5G Broadcast technologies comes to life in Palermo, with an innovative use case involving two important local entities in the field of art and education.

Is it possible to rethink the way we learn or enjoy content? How can new technologies transform the way people access, enjoy and participate in culture, art, information and education?

5G Broadcast technology, thanks to its connection speed and low latencies, offers the ability to create, share and enjoy cultural, artistic and informational content in a more immediate, engaging and personalized way, enabling efficient and simultaneous broadcasting to large and diverse audiences.

In the "5G Audiovisual Broadcast Broadband Network" project, Rai Way, with the support of an aggregation of 11 partners, is experimenting with the many possibilities of these innovative technologies. At the evocative setting of the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, the first of the use cases, "Live Theater VR360", took place.

During the experimentation, VR360 footage of an artistic nature related to the staging of the ballet "Le Corsaire" was produced, contextually broadcast in 5G Broadcast over the Palermo area, for enjoyment through special viewers in the Teatro Massimo and by students of the Convitto Nazionale Giovanni Falcone.

The live content of the ballet footage included pre-recorded fragments through "Impersive POV" techniques in the theater and in the historical places of the city of Palermo, transporting the viewer into an immersive storytelling experienced in first person. It was an immersive experience that helped underscore the value of networking with technology partners and culture and art enablers at the territorial level. The experimentation with complex and highly innovative technologies is complemented by the value of networking among businesses, institutions and communities to enable new scenarios in the field of culture, art, education and training, leveraging the high emotional component and involvement of immersive technologies.
